The U.S. Communications Decency Act of 1996 is struck down by a tribunal of judges in ACLU, et al. v. Reno. The time did not change because:
The Government will appeal to the Supreme Court.
The tribunal disagreed on the issue of the constitutionality of censorship based on the "indecency" standard (2-1 against).
France passed a similar law on June 7 which also instituted Clipper-type encryption key escrow regulation.
Australia is considering even more severe cyber-censorship.
